Bible study was where I first met Bill in 1977. I was impressed with his ability to ask the right questions of us as we studied a text. And within a few months I was privileged to know him better when I served with him at Barrington College. David Cranmer
I remember the first night I met Dr. Buehler and his wife Marlie (Mrs. Buehler!), it was “meet the faculty” and all the freshman biblical studies majors went to visit at his home. I remember your hospitality, and graciousness as we left our dorms to see a professors home! What a big deal it was for me. On the way back to Gordon, I remember Dr. B asking questions about many things and listened to us respond. May God bless you all. Thanks Dr. Buehler!
Dear Marlyn and Family,
How to express what Dr. Buehler meant to me?
His friendship and guidance to me as an “older” student during my time at Gordon College (’86-’92) left an indelible impression upon me and the way I serve our Lord.
His wonderful advice regarding prayer … “bring it to the light” continues to ring in my ears and influences my relationship with Jesus as He & I inspect my issues, prayer concerns and motives when struggles come upon me.
Precious memories pop to mind when I think of the many times I helped out in Hamilton when we students would gather on a Friday night at the house on Anthony Road for our annual lasagna dinner! OH … what fun!
Then, again, as a staff member of the college, while my husband was at Gordon-Conwell (’93-’98) … I remember how the wonderful bible study times held with other faculty and staff continued to expand our understanding of the love of Christ AND gave practical teaching as we watched a couple serve together in ministry … Such great role models! Gracious, easy hospitality flowed from Bill & Marlyn as we watched and learned. The “realness” of them as a couple … teasing, even good hearted bickering … was GREAT!
When I heard that Dr. Buehler had passed on I immediately thought about the great conversations he’s having and questions he’s asking our LORD and others with whom he’s smoozing! Oh, to be there … someday I will!
Meanwhile, we are sad for us but glad for him! I’m looking forward to seeing him again when I get there!
Please know our prayers are with you, Marlyn, and the rest of the family as you move forward without him.
May God give you peace as you seek His comfort!

I had the privilege of taking many classes with Dr. Buehler at Gordon. He was a decent and gracious man always. I will always remember his deep insights and his wonderful sense of humor. Thank you for a wonderful life and legacy. You will be missed.
I had the privilege of taking “Romans and Galatians” with Dr. Buehler at Barrington College. Not only was he a superb, engaging professor but he was a man who truly lived his faith. When I was faced with having to stay on campus until the Friday of exam week to take his final while all my other exams were finished on Tuesday, he graciously allowed me to take the test in the library early so that I could be on my way home for semester break. I was amazed and honored that he had such faith in me. I shall forever remember him as a marvelous, kind, and faith-filled human being. “Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord: And let light perpetual shine on him.”
I was privileged to come to know Jesus as my Savior at a Jesus Rally on the campus of Barrington in the spring of 1972. That summer the Lord called me into fulltime service for Him and I changed my major to Biblical Studies. It was in Dr. Buehler’s course on Romans that I first began to understand the awful price God paid for a sinner like me and the wonder of His substitutionary atonement. Seeing my tears, Dr. Buehler stayed after class that day and prayed with me. I will never forget that prayer! It was Dr. Buehler who recommended me to Gordon-Conwell and a big reason why I was accepted there. I am so grateful for this wonderful brother in Christ. Till we meet again in the glorious kingdom, God bless you, my teacher and friend!!
